Laurie Shepherd – Bio
Laurie grew up in the North East of England, in a family where protest music, environmental activism and political discussions were normal. She began her studies in classical music at an early age, later exploring pop and soul music before settling on jazz with her studies at the London College of Music.
After returning to the North East, Laurie spent several years performing as a jazz singer whilst continuing to practice the craft of song writing.
Her style rests somewhere between folk and jazz. Intricate harmonies and sweeping melodies lend an ethereal quality to her lyrics, with subject matter ranging from the suffragettes movement, to the longing for wildness, to a love songs that links the human heart to the attractive forces between moon and sea.
Laurie is captivating audiences across the region with beautifully crafted songs that transport the listener to another world.
